My Cave

So, as previously noted, my apartment is cold. But that doesn't mean ALL of it is cold...

Whallah! Behold, my cave!

Yes, it's a tent made out of blankets. Yes, I'm insane. But at least that little spot is warm! Because not only is it encased, but it faces the south windows (which allow some nice sunlight to come in) and traps the warm air that my space heater creates. Also, since the space heater is so bright (see pic), I save on electricity by never needing to turn on a light! ^_^

This is what it looks like inside. That's the bottom of my futon on the floor, with the pile of blankets and sheets rolled over to the side. My best friends, my computer and space heater, sit at attention, ready to be useful. They're awesome ^_^

And this last pic depicts the entrance to my little cave (as well as another pile of blankets and my warm, pink slippers).

Ah, I love my cave. ^_^

P.S. This only took me a few hours, five blankets, and many push pins/safety pins to set up. There are still many holes for the heat to escape through, so it's not perfect, but at least I don't see my breath in my tent!

Brrrr

My apartment is cold.

Japan does not have central heating, so usually only one room is heated or has the one source of heat that everyone migrates to.

Despite only one room being heated, it still can be very expensive.

So, since there is only me living in my apartment (and only me paying the bills), I choose to forgo the (way expensive) A/C-turned-heater and rely on blankets instead. And, if I'm really cold, a small space heater (see pic).

I've warned my friends that my apartment is cold, but I don't think they've realized its extent. Recently, a friend came over to chat for a bit, but he kept stopping. He kept being unnerved by constantly seeing his own breath.

Yes. You can see your own breath in my apartment. It is that cold.

Rice Fields

Rice fields are abundant over here in Takamatsu and they're so random. You can be calmly biking along a road with businesses and suddenly, there's a rice field in between two stores. It's rather funny. ^_^

Below are some pics of when the rice was nearing harvest. These fields are only five minutes from my house by bike.

Note that those fields are at least a foot below from the road. So those rice plants are tall!

Beautiful Japan

A lovely shot near my home, including everything that is classic about rural Japan. Train tracks, a small stream, a small graveyard, compact houses, and greenery interspersed with many electrical poles.

I love Japan ^_^

Tsk tsk

I seem to have the hardest time keeping up on this blog. Tsk tsk

So, let's simplify this to just a picture blog. Goodness knows I've got plenty of those. ^_^
